I've evolved a great deal since then, as I am sure you have too, so please be kind :-o ![]() QUESTION FROM NANCY: I am sure you hear this a lot Morgana but I cannot figure out what my calling is or what I am supposed to be doing with my life? I have tried everything like accounting, literature, computers. I have lost track by now. Sometimes I feel so lost I get depressed and don't want to work at all. I just don't understand why life is so complicated? Why aren't we told what we are supposed to be doing so we don't flounder around? How do we find this out? Thank you for your time. MORGANA'S RESPONSE: Greetings Nancy! Thank you for your question. My response is multifaceted and may shatter some long-held notions of yours so brace yourself :) First and foremost, there is a vast differentiation between our Raison D'être (reason to be) and our Calling even though the two can be intertwined. In the latter instance most persons use such terminology in the same context as yourself - to refer to one's occupation - so this is the aspect I will address specifically for this column (and, perhaps, at a later time I will delve more into the purpose for our existence overall). Since the soul is infinite then we have a multitude of opportunities to incarnate on Mother Earth. Additionally, we have the option of participating in activities whilst residing on the spirit realm in between births (I use the word "activities" because technically we do not have to have an occupation when in such a state of pure consciousness due to the fact that hunger, poverty, etc. are non existent). However, we do remain active nonetheless and engage in various pursuits. Otherwise our spiritual growth would be vastly limited. In which case, it is most beneficial to view your current life as but one fragment of your entire being; a small piece of the wondrous, intricate puzzle that comprises Nancy in totality. The challenge is that once we are in the physical shell we tend to develop what is commonly referred to as Tunnel Vision. This means that our perception oftentimes becomes so constricted that we view our current life as the be-all and end-all. In turn, we may begin to fret about finding THE JOB for us, as well as THE SOULMATE, and so on. We often go on a mission in search of the perfect occupation that fulfills a variety of our wants and needs; where we can attain a state of financial abundance and security, professional recognition, personal satisfaction, emotional joy, et al. We can assume that this job is based on a predestined path and that it must be established by a certain time frame. If this is not accomplished then we might even go so far as to, tragically enough, consider ourselves a "failure"; whereby chronic indecision, frustration, and even depression can suffocate us like a black veil if we allow this. A significant fallacy with this theory is that it negates the premise of free will to say that we "should" or "must" be actively pursuing any given occupation - whether by a precise time frame or not. We create our own destiny and as such it is us who determines where we want to work, what we want to accomplish from said, and when. Likewise, beside the fact that it would be impossible for any one job, person, or any other endeavor to satiate all of our wants and needs, more often than not those who feel really unhappy or directionless in work are discontent with other facets of their inner being and life as well. This is a vital factor that many tend to overlook or deny, although it's certainly not an absolute and is not applicable to everyone. Yet, conceivably one could derive pleasure working in any field if they are in harmony with the Universe. If one possesses a healthy sense of self-love and self-respect, has the ability to laugh, explore, experiment, learn, and all that good stuff then one could enjoy their job whether they work at a fast food establishment or as a surgeon. There are those who have brilliant careers but are utterly miserable nonetheless, which is further evidence that happiness is most certainly not based exclusively on what we do for a living. It may help you to discover your Calling by first really delving into the condition of your life overall. Ask yourself how you truly feel about you and the personal environment that surrounds you. Aside from work, for the most part are you content with all other areas of your life? Or do you feel overwhelmed, disappointed, angry, bitter, afraid, doubtful, or? If so, you might benefit from examining old wounds and other issues that can result in a low self-esteem and self-defeating choices and actions. Begin my purging all of these detrimental thoughts, feelings, and patterns that hinder your personal and career development via therapy, a support group, writing, and meditations. Such an inner transformation will enable more positive outer experiences to gravitate toward you. Also, it would help if you create a list and on the left-hand side outline precisely what it is that you are seeking in a job whether that be prestige, power, financial abundance, being in the position to help others (the possibilities are infinite). On the alternate side of the list write down all interests and activities that bring you the most personal pleasure. Compare the two so that you can ascertain which interest or activity can be equated with what you seek in employment. This should provide you with a basic guideline of what type of work would be most suitable for you so that you have a starting point. This is along the vein of the old adage, "Find what you love, then find a way to earn a living doing it." For a much more in-depth explanation on this approach please read the invaluable books I have listed below. Next, it may help to view your job quest from a broader perspective. Recognize and accept that you can choose to reincarnate many times and as such you may be a carpenter in one life, an artist in a second, a doctor in a third, and so on. No one career would define who you are but only contribute to enriching your soul via diversity. Although you may have planned on delving into a specific field prior to being born for this lifetime, due to the blessing of free will you can deviate from this pre chosen path at any given moment. Simultaneously, contrary to popular belief, there are indeed those of us who come here with the intent of exploring several fields just for the knowledge and experience, and because of this we literally do not have any singular occupation that we are "supposed" to be doing. If this is applicable to you, and you unveil this truth, then you could be quite content dabbling in numerous occupations! All the while telling yourself, "Wow, I learned so much from each job I tried!" Finally, pertaining to you specifically Nancy, my own spirit guide (Tso) noted that for this incarnation you had pre planned on going into photography so that you could capture the emotions of others. In a more recent lifetime your career emphasized relaying news stories via the written word, yet, you didn't find this real gratifying because you are more of a visual individual. Seeing people and events is more stimulating to you than reading about them or speaking of them. I noticed that most of the fields you have explored during your current life have been more along the vein of technical pursuits and the written word again. This is not too uncommon for us to unintentionally repeat some elements of a previous incarnation in a new lifetime, although it does explain part of the reason for you feeling disappointed with your career endeavors. It might bid you well to try areas in which you can release your visual and creative side via sketching, portraiture, photography, and the like. Give it a try and let me know how things work out for you! Blessings and be well! Morgana
